The Galveston Fencing Club will hold it first post-Hurricane Ike meeting at the gym at Moody Methodist on Monday, 27 October. We will meet in the lobby near the gym at 7PM so the students may gather their gear. We will then have the gym from 7:30-8:30. Beginners and those wishing to warm back into fencing after a hiatus of over a month will have a group class in basic footwork and blade work. All classes are free of charge. For those just coming to fence, there will be two electric scoreboxes set up for those with competition gear. Those who just wish to watch and ask questions are encouraged to stop by. You can find out more about us and about fencing on our website: The Galveston Fencing Club.

For the Galveston Fencing Club, this last Monday was our last practice/bouting night for the year. We had planned to be "off" for the holidays on the next two Mondays, returning on the 5th of January. This last Monday, however, we also learned that the gym at Moody Methodist, where we normally meet, will be closed from December 29 - February 15. So, if we are lucky, our return will be sometime around Monday the 16th of February. That's a pretty long break, especially at a time when a lot of lapsed members return to work off that holiday bulge. Fortunately, we have a "reciprocal relationship" with our sister club, the Clear Lake Fencing Club. They, themselves, have only just returned to regular fencing using a gym at the Clear Lake Church of Christ. So if any of our lapsed or scattered former members see this, any current, paid-up member of the Galveston Fencing Club can come and fence for free on Thursday evening with the Clear Lake Fencing Club. Unlike the Galveston Fencing Club (where the lessons are free), there will be a fee if you want lessons. There is no extra fee to just come and fence. The location is 938 El Dorado Blvd, Houston, TX, 77062. Map: www.mapquest.com/maps/938+El+Dorado+blvd+houston+tx/
