, We've gotta find out where to have it? what wizardly guidance can we find? Who has crossed this path before us? We've got to name the event, find volunteers, figure out where to have it, what parameters, encourage, manage and organize submissions, judges, etc., generate a buzz, encourage participation, seek festival help, find venues, host the event, and have fun.... Who's first....? -DT

Where to start with this is pretty simple if you just survey your surroundings. The island has two theaters downtown that would be suitable for screenings. There are SEVERAL abandoned buildings downtown that are going to waste. Contacting the owners of these buildings and attempting to arrange the utilization of them for the festival is an option. Procuring space for the festival is of course going to take funds, and I will get to that. Having outdoor screenings on a nice night on east beach could be a nice spin as well. As for funding, pre-sale ticket revenue would be a given. You have to get business owners hyped on an event like this so they feel secure in investing time and money. And getting people excited is something that the wizard is not doing. All I see is a bunch of what ifs and hypothetical ideas with no action. This board has been up for months and there 16 posts total, pathetic. I don’t like to have to criticize the wizard since the parrot is really the only other local publication, and the parrot sucks. I say contact the parks and recreation board and get the permits and go ahead for a beach film festival out at east beach. Bonus points for drinking on east beach being legal, so you can have vendors for beer and food. This is the point where you get on the horn with the parks board and whatever other officials to get the go ahead. Then inform local restaurants and booze slingers that there will be high demand for there services at the festival, selling vendor spots also make cash. Also, it would help if the movies were not all crap.
